This Privacy Policy describes how Extension Fox and its affiliates ("Extension Fox", "we", "our" or "us") collect, use, store, and share information in connection with your use of the Gemini AI Image Watermark Remover browser extension (the "Extension"), our website gremover.extensionfox.com, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

We are committed to transparency. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, where it is stored, and with whom it is shared. If you have any questions, please contact us at help[at]extensionfox.com.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect only the data necessary to operate the Extension and manage your account and subscription.

  1. Account Information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a hashed password. This is required to create and authenticate your account and to associate your subscription with you.
  2. Authentication Token. After login, an authentication token is stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.sync (key: gwr_auth) to keep you signed in. This token is sent to our backend with API requests to verify your identity.
  3. Usage Data (Quota Tracking). Each time you process an image, the Extension reports a usage event to our backend so we can enforce free-tier daily quotas (3 images/day) and Pro entitlements. The event contains a counter and a timestamp — not the image itself or its URL. For guest (non-logged-in) users, the quota counter is stored locally in chrome.storage.local (key: gwr_guest_used).
  4. Subscription Status. We retrieve your current subscription status (free / Pro / plan id / renewal date) from our backend to unlock paid features such as Auto Mode, batch processing, and ZIP export.
  5. Payment Information. When you purchase a Pro subscription, payment is processed by our third-party payment providers Stripe and Paddle. We do not see, store, or have access to your full credit card number, CVV, or bank credentials. We only receive a customer/subscription identifier and billing status (e.g., active, canceled, past_due) from these processors.
  6. IP Address and Browser Fingerprint. When the Extension or website communicates with our backend, our servers automatically log your IP address and a browser fingerprint (a hash derived from non-sensitive browser characteristics such as user-agent, language, screen size, and timezone). We use this information solely for:
    • User identification and account security (detecting account takeover and abuse);
    • Enforcing free-tier quotas against guest users to prevent circumvention;
    • Fraud prevention and rate-limiting.
    We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or resale.
2. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

We want to be explicit about what stays on your device:

  • Your images are never uploaded to our servers. All watermark removal is performed 100% locally inside your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API (see engine.js). The original image, the processed image, and any intermediate pixel data never leave your device.
  • We do not collect the URLs of images you process, the content of your Gemini conversations, prompts, or any other browsing history.
  • We do not collect personally identifiable information beyond your email address. No name, phone number, address, or government ID is requested.
  • We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties for purposes unrelated to the single purpose of the Extension (removing watermarks from images you choose to process).
  • We do not use user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
3. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We use the information we collect strictly to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Extension and the Services;
  • Authenticate you and keep you logged in;
  • Enforce free-tier quotas and unlock paid Pro features based on subscription status;
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions through Stripe and Paddle;
  • Identify users and prevent fraud, abuse, and quota circumvention (via IP and browser fingerprint);
  • Respond to customer support requests;
  • Comply with legal obligations.
4. HOW WE STORE INFORMATION
  • Backend storage. Account data (email, hashed password), usage counters, subscription records, IP logs, and browser fingerprint hashes are stored on our backend servers at gremover.extensionfox.com. Data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS.
  • Local browser storage. Authentication tokens are stored in chrome.storage.sync; guest usage counters are stored in chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly sign in or process an image.
  • Payment data is stored by Stripe and Paddle on their PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure — not by us.
5. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  1. Payment Processors. We share your email and a customer identifier with Stripe (stripe.com/privacy) and Paddle (paddle.com/legal/privacy) so they can process your subscription payment and notify us of billing events.
  2. Service Providers. We may share data with infrastructure providers (hosting, database, email delivery) strictly to operate the Services. They are contractually bound to use the data only on our behalf.
  3. Legal Compliance. We may disclose information when required to (i) comply with applicable law, regulation, or legal process; (ii) enforce our Terms of Service; (iii) detect or prevent fraud or security issues; or (iv) protect the rights, property, or safety of Extension Fox, our users, or the public.
  4. Business Transfers. If Extension Fox is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users before their data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  5. With Your Consent. We may share information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. DATA RETENTION

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. Usage logs, IP addresses, and browser fingerprints are retained for up to 12 months for fraud prevention and quota enforcement, then deleted or anonymized. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business needs (such as tax or accounting records).

7. SECURITY

We employ industry-standard security measures to protect your data: HTTPS/TLS for all data in transit, password hashing (bcrypt-class) at rest, restricted database access, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate data;
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten");
  • Request a portable copy of your data;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Withdraw consent at any time;
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly.

10. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

Our servers may be located outside your country of residence. By using the Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data remains protected.

11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the Extension or by email. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
